XCR 26 Round 10 Race Wrap - Tan Relays

And that’s a Wrap...XCR 26 done and dusted! Overall, across the season, our numbers were down in the relays and individual events, but we still delivered some very solid results.

As far as the Tan relays go, we had fewer teams than previous years but still managed some great results. Highlights for the final round were our women’s premier team’s second place, a big win for the U14 men’s with Darcy Beeston running a huge race to post the fastest U14 time of the day, as well as many other personal best times. Thanks to our two AV helpers Alistair McDonald and Mal Hodgart. Well done and thanks to all the efforts of athletes and helpers over the season.

Open Women

Low numbers in the open women restricted the ladies to just a Premier and Div 2 and 60+ team. The Premier team had a great result to finish second with the inform Ebony Dodemaide leading out the team. It was Leanne Eliis however, in the second leg, who posted the fastest time, finishing in 12 minutes and 47 seconds. This was the second fastest leg in the Premier team and third fastest female time of the day. Next in was Amy Cashin then Sophie McMinimee with Maddi Button rounding out the team. The Div team was 9th and the 60+ team of Janice Hodgart, Cheryl Nelson and Kerryl Drake finishing in second place.

Open Men

Low numbers in our open men’s ranks also resulted in only 3 full teams, with the assistance from some our older juniors athletes. One highlight for the race was from Liam Cashin, who led out the team, and produced a 19 second PB and second fastest time for the day, completing the course in 10 minutes and 38 seconds. Second was Zayd Al Sayd then U20 Aiden Muscat, U18 Bon Martin, Leo Heading and rounding out the team was Brandon Muscat. The team was 9th on the day but, with the body of work throughout the season and especially the early part, the team was second in the ladders. The Div 3 was 12th, the Div 5 was 11th and the Div 6 was 10th.

Juniors

There were many juniors that were selected in the open teams, and thanks to the following athletes: Leanne Ellis (U20) in the Women’s Premier team and Abby Bassos (U16) in the Div 2. In the Men’s Premier; Bon Martin (U18) and Aiden Muscat (U20) and in the Div 3; Mitch Parks (U20), Riley Parks (U20) and Thej Vindodhkumar (U18) in his debut XCR run. We had four junior teams, Men’s U16, Men U14, Women U18 and Women U16.

The Men’s U14 team was the standout to win the race. Darcy Beeston put in a blinder to run the fastest U14 time of the day finishing in 12 minutes and 50 seconds and was supported by great runs from Ishaan Burgu and Jack Bassos. The Men’s U16 team of Ryder Deans, Zac Salerno and Felix Marchant combined to finish 4th - a great result in a very full field of teams.

In the Women’s teams, the U18s team of Keely Williams, Sofia Mbote and Shivika Dubey was 7th and the U16s team of Ella McDonald, Kalani Kaye and Willow McCarthy was 11th.
