XCR 26 Round 1 Lakeside 5km

We were treated to perfect conditions for the first race of the season and there was a corresponding set of results with many PBs and solid team results. Highlights for the day were the many top ten results across the age groups and the men’s and women’s premier teams both finishing 3rd. We had solid numbers in the open ranks with full women’s teams down to Div 5 and in the men’s full teams to Div 6 and 3 in the Div 7. Thanks to Brigitte Sneyders as our AV helper and all those who supplied us with carbs after the race! Congratulation to all our new athletes in their debut for the club: Grace Honan, Madison Button, Shivika Dubey, Keely Williams, Alan Jaszweski, Riley Parks and Mitchell Parks.

Open Men’s

We had good numbers in the open men divisions which was fortified by three U20s athlete running in open. For the Premier team Zayd Al Sayd was first to cross the line in 14 minutes and 7 seconds which was 7th overall. Second in was Liam Cashin with U20 Alex Cameron Smith immediate behind him and in a club U20 5km record. Fourth was Brandon Muscat then Callum Drake with Nathan Pearce rounding out the team. The Div 3 delivered an excellent result with a third place, the Div 5 was 12th, the Div 6 was 7th and the Div 7 was 23rd. In the overage individual results Alistair McDonald returned to form with a 4th in the 45+.

Open Women’s

It was a great start for our open women in terms of numbers and talent. There were 15 overall in the race and we saw a very strong Premier team and, for possibly the first time, we had two athletes in the top ten with Amy Cashin and Janae Mackrell in 6th and 7th respectively. First across the line for the Premier team was Amy Cashin in a time of 16 minutes and 34 seconds and Janae Mackrell only 4 seconds behind with a big PB. Next in was Ebony Dodemaide then Madison Button, in her XCR debut for the club, with Sophie McMinimee rounding the team. In the debut race for our Div 2 the team was 6th, the Div 4 was 4th and the Div 5 12th.

In our overage cohort, Carolyn Huell was 10th in the 55+ age group and Janice hodgart was 7th in the 60+ age group. OUr 50+ team was 8th and the 60+ was 4th.

Juniors

Despite 3 U20s make the decision to assist the open men’s divisions, we still had sufficient athletes to field a full team and finish third with Mitchell Parks leading the way, Armeet Dhaliwal right behind him and Riley Parks making up the team. There were no other full team results but there were some outstanding individual results with Ryder Deans finishing 2nd in the Men U16, Leanne Ellis 4th in the women U20 and Bon Martin 7th in the Men U18.
