XCR 25 Round 2 St Anne's Winery Myrniong
Based on the old Ekiden relays course, the round 2 cross country racing consisted of a 4 km, 7 km and 12km event. The 1.5 and 4km loops were relatively easy with the 6.5km loop throwing in a long steady hill out the back. The accumulation of hills and the wind on the day made for a tough 12km course. Highlights from the day were again our strong numbers and depth in the open men's 12km resulting in another Premier team win and win for the Div 6, our Premier women were 6th and second in the Div 3 and a second place for the Men U20. There were some great individual results also with Liam Cashin second in the Open Men's, Leanne Ellis win in the U18 Women's and Brigitte Sneyders was second in the Women's 45+.
Thanks for all those who contributed on the day and photos from Alistair McDoanald and Tania Shanahan.
Juniors
Kicking off the racing was the Junior's 7km and short course. In the Men U20s it was Alex Cameron-Smith leading the way finishing in third place in a time of 23 minutes and 12 seconds. Jackson Wright and Aiden Muscat completed the U20 team, both finishing in the top ten with the team in second place. In the U18 7km, Bon Martin made his debut and finished midfield with a very solid run. In the 4km event Isaac French continued his good form finishing 4th.
In the Women's U18 4km race Leanne Ellis won in a time of 14 minutes and 48 seconds.
Open Women
After the short course and juniors’ events were out of the way it was the turn of the women in the 12km event. Whilst our numbers were down, it was a solid effort from the women with a 6th place for the Premier team and second place for the Div 3. In the premier team Janae Mackrell was first in and 16th overall, in a time of 48 minutes and 59 seconds. Next in was Ebony Dodemaide then Claire Hodgart, Brigitte Sneyders (second place in the 45+) with Erica Charleston rounding out the team and in her debut in the Premier team. The Div 3 team excelled and was second. In the masters category Brigitte Sneyders was second and Cath Cleveland was 4th in the 45+ and Abby Speakman was 5th in the 40+. In the short Course Janice Hodgart was 1st in the 60+.
Open Men
It was another dominant display from our open men cohort, and not just in the Premier team but across the board with a win in the Div 6!
First in for the Premier team was Liam Cashin who also second overall and finished in a time of 37 minutes and 52 seconds. Next in, and also in the top 10 in 8th place, was Zayd Al Sayd for shortly followed by Cody Shanahan. Brandon Muscat ran well, just outside the top 20 then Callum Drake with Adbi Haji Ali rounding out the team, all well within the top 40. Solid depth again saw our Div 3 and Div 5 finish 3rd and a stunning win for the Div 6 team of Liam McGrellis, Steven Chua, Phil Cameron-Smith and Ben Mudie. The Div 7 was 5th. Best of our overage results was Peter Boyle in the 40+ finishing 4th.
