XCR 26 Round 5 Calder Park Relays
This round we were greeted by a very fine day with a slight breeze kicking up in the latter part of the day. The main challenge I found with this course was the long straights, but otherwise not a bad run, no hills! We had much better numbers than previous rounds with 48 athletes competing across all catergories, although it was our open teams that benefited most with 4 four women’s teams and 5 full men’s teams and our first Div 7 men’s team for the season. Highlights for the day included our open women’s Premier team finishing second and our Premier men’s team 3rd, on the podium together again.
It was all hands to the deck to get these teams together so thanks to all those who agreed to run the long course including three junior athletes; Aiden Muscat, Leanne Ellis and Bon Martin. Thanks to Nick Tavendale for bringing the marquee and Peter Cashin and Alistair McDonald for undertaking the AV duties.
Open Women
With good open numbers, we fielded four full teams, and we had our best result for the Premier team, with a 2nd place. Amy Cashin led the way completing the 7.2km course in a time of 24 minutes and 27 seconds in what also appears to be the fastest women’s time of the day. Ebony Dodemaide was second with Janae Mackrell third, U20 Leanne Ellis fourth and Maddy Button rounding out the team. In the other divisions our Div 2 was 6th, Div 4 was 5th and the Div 5 was 6th.
