Just for a change the weather was fine and sunny at the normally stormy and cold event. This proved a little challenging for some of us especially for those doing the 6.2 km in the second lap and trying to find some fitness!! We had our best athlete turn out for the year so far with 53 athletes running, giving us 14 scoring teams. Overall the day was a great success with two first place results, U18 and U14 women, two second places, U20 men and Div 3 women and two third place results, U18 men and Premier men. Thanks again to our two AV helpers Peter Cashin and Mal Hodgart, all those who recorded for the teams and of course all athletes for turning up on time and enjoying the day’s racing.
Good times! up at the Gold Coast for Western Athletics. Brigitte equaled her PB in the 10km in windy conditions. Jack was in fine form winning the Half Marathon ahead of many international athletes, and a great run for Michael in the marathon crossing the line in 2:41:25, an 8 minute PB. Well done guys!
The 2019 Oceania Athletics Championships were held in Townsville and run from Tuesday 25th of June to Friday 29th of June.
Athletics Victoria have announced the Victorian Junior Cross Country Teams.
Congratulations to the following members who have been selected:
This is a tough round to get through both logistically and physically for the athletes around the course - the course was brutal! With the rain during the week there were many slippery uphill sections and the downhill section in the back half of the long legs was the worst, with two-inch deep mud in places and a huge puddle to skirt around.
Despite the heavy threatening clouds there was no rain and conditions were ideal for racing. With the light rain during the week the surface was damp but firm and provided for a fast course. With most juniors racing in the All Schools it was just the Open and U20s who points scored this round. Our Open men’s teams continued the strong numbers with 21 athletes, fielding 4 teams. Our open women’s, despite a solid premier team, were very low on numbers insufficient to field a second Div 3 and Div 4 team.
This week saw the completion of shade sails installed at our Werribee track. The new structures will be a valuable addition for athletes and spectators at training and competition. A big thank you to Wyndham City Council for leading and completing the project.
Congratulations to all our athletes who competed at the Australian Masters Track & Field championships held in Melbourne from 26-29 April.
