Brenda Cashin was drawn as volunteer of the month for May. Congratulations Brenda!

Ticket 56 was drawn which was for Brenda's photography at Albert Park XCR. We appreciate all our photographers who take the time to take and share photos, it can be quite a big job. Brenda has also helped out during the season at fundraising events, uniforms and photography at a number of other events.

Volunteer of the Month

Volunteer of the Month

To show our appreciation of our volunteers and to recognise their commitment to our club, we are introducing a monthly award.

How it works

When you help out the club you will score a ‘ticket’ in the volunteer draw. The more times you volunteer, the more times your name will be put into the pool. The volunteer of the month pool will be reset at the end of each winter and summer season.

Every month we will randomly draw a volunteer from the pool of volunteers for the season. The volunteer of the month will receive a prize which includes an item of merchandise (e.g. hat, beanie or socks) and a voucher for coffee and cake at The Social Sutra, Shop 1/169 Watton St, Werribee.

At the end of the year all volunteers, across the winter and summer seasons, will go in to a draw for a larger prize.

Volunteering includes roles such as filling AV club helper duties, helping out at fundraising events, photography for the club at events and bringing the club tents to XCR events.

Australian Cross Country Championships 2019

Australian Cross Country Championships 2019

The 2019 Australian Cross Country Championships were held at Wollongong on the 24th August 2019. It was great that the event was live streamed by Athletics Australia. Many of us were able to watch and cheer on the Western Athletics athletes from Melbourne.

XCR Round 7 Lake Wendouree

XCR Round 7 Lake Wendouree

Highlights for this round were the many athletes who were able exploit the perfect weather conditions and produced many PBs in both the 15 and 6km events.  Amongst the fine performances there were many top ten results including a return to the top ten for open athletes Ryan Geard (4th) and Liam Cashin (8th), Junior wins for U18s Ebony Dodemaide and Ethan McMinimee and a second place for U14 Liz Hall, her first XCR medal.  For our teams, our U18 and U14 women’s teams both won and continued to firm up their place on top of the ladders, our Open Men achieved another second place for the season and with Yarra Ranges not fielding an U20 men’s team are now on top of the ladder!

Sandown Race Wrap XCR Round 5

Sandown Race Wrap XCR Round 5

Just for a change the weather was fine and sunny at the normally stormy and cold event.  This proved a little challenging for some of us especially for those doing the 6.2 km in the second lap and trying to find some fitness!!  We had our best athlete turn out for the year so far with 53 athletes running, giving us 14 scoring teams.  Overall the day was a great success with two first place results, U18 and U14 women, two second places, U20 men and Div 3 women and two third place results, U18 men and Premier men.  Thanks again to our two AV helpers Peter Cashin and Mal Hodgart, all those who recorded for the teams and of course all athletes for turning up on time and enjoying the day’s racing.

Good times! up at the Gold Coast for Western Athletics. Brigitte equaled her PB in the 10km in windy conditions. Jack was in fine form winning the Half Marathon ahead of many international athletes, and a great run for Michael in the marathon crossing the line in 2:41:25, an 8 minute PB. Well done guys!
